I'll start by saying that I don't post much on here, unless it's for my corporation's recruitment efforts. I have been silently stalking these forums and watching. I am posting because I believe these forums are going down the drain (and I ran out of popcorn). These are some things that I have noticed.
This is posted in general discussion. General discussion (I believe) is for speculation and to talk about the game we love, or love to hate. One can also brag, or throw a temper tantrum about winning/losing. There are different conversation choices we as players can choose from...
What I see that general discussion is NOT for is calling for nerf/buffs and debating the pros/cons. There is a forum for that (Feedback/Requests), so please, stop flooding this forum with your tears, whether they be from "joy or pain (sunshine and rain)". (old song, my apologies)
Looking through the posts in general discussion, it would appear that the forum moderators are asleep at the wheel. Now, now, don't shoot the messenger. This is constructive criticism. All I would ask, GMs, is to place the proper posts where they belong. When there are 5 separate threads on nerfing LRs, it clutters and pushes back topics that would probably do best in General Discussion. If I am wrong about where the nerf/buff discussion goes, feel free to correct me (this is directed at CCP).
I think it would be a waste of time (i'll do it anyway) to remind newberries that this game is not the final product, and that we are using these forums to make the game the new benchmark for other games and developers to achieve. So please, just stop with the ranting and raving and foaming at the mouth. Take the time to learn the game's mechanics, ask questions, grind yourself and in time you will be as good as you think you are. The problem I find with newberry complaints is that it's all about bruised egos. "I was golden gun king of the hill in {insert cookie-cutter FPS here}, and I expect to be just as good, if not better, in DUST514. Since my expectations were not met, I will trash this game and create a flame-war to destroy the game from within, etc. etc. etc"
I think we can all agree that this game is not for everyone, just like CoD, BF, Hello Kitty (to name a few) is not for everyone. To anyone that thinks that CCP will lose money and go bankrupt because "the game's learning curve was steeper than another FPS" and "they should learn from the other FPSes to make DUST514 more accessible", should go back to their hippy commune. In New Eden, it's survival of the fittest. Please do your research on New Eden (the universe of EVE and DUST514 exist in), and you'll soon realize that this game is not for everyone, and CCP will do just fine without the cookie-cutter fanboys.
Veterans, thanks for making this game great. It's because of you this game is getting greater. Let's not coddle the newberries, but let's also not persecute them for being newberries. We were all newberries once. If you give nothing more than encouragement to keep grinding and walk towards the light, you are creating a player base that is no-nonsense, self-sufficient, and (for the most part) free of QQ.
For my personal views... the balancing act is like rock paper scissors (with a bunch more objects), but the purpose remains the same. A scout is guaranteed to get turned into swiss cheese by an HMG... It's not OP, you're just not being tactically intelligent. A LR is guaranteed to keep you and your teammates at bay, so as not to close the gap and mess with the rest of their team... It's not OP, you're just not thinking outside the box. I could go on. Are there some balancing issues? Of course! This is how I feel a proposal to nerf/buff should be presented (IN THE RIGHT FORUMS):
1)complaint 2)detailed solution (including what kind of dmg, clip size, hp, shields, whatever)
If you don't spell it out, the Developers will balance something based on guesses... which is why some items get rebalanced several times.
That's it for me... Thanks for whatever you got coming (ccp) and thanks for being awesome (even if you are going to troll/flame me)
And yes, I see the irony of my post... |
